Jeff and I have been riding the Ironman Ride since 2012, it’s last year in the Lakeville area. This year we rode the shortest distance of our 5 rides, just 37.7 miles in the cold, wind, and rain. We did 67 in worse conditions in 2014, but this time we said, “forget it.” I guess we weren’t up to proving anything this year. I had committed to riding every day in April, and I did, culminating with The Minnesota Ironman Ride. I totaled 413.84 including the Ironman, and overall I felt good. But it was not the greatest day in the saddle.

2015 was a treat, not too hot, not too cold, and sunny. That was a great year to be on the Ironman. Really fantastic day.

2014, in a more typical fashion, was a brute.
If you were on the ride that year you’d remember it was was the windiest, wettest, but not the coldest (by a degree or two) Ironman Ride to date. We still did 67 miles, and were pretty proud of our toughness that year. I remember very cold hands and soaking feet. Many smart people took the sag wagon from the first rest stop and called it a day. I can’t blame them. It was a stiff wind.

2013 was probably the hottest Ironman we’ve ridden, luckily we were layered up, because that one was downright hot.

Our First Year – Last Ride from Lakeville – 2012
Our first year on the Ironman Jeff rode his vintage Schwinn to celebrate or perhaps relive his youth. Grey and cool, but mostly dry that day, we managed to get 67 miles. And we were hooked.
